I’m excited to tell you a little money saving story involving the Raise App. I love those type of stories (and this is not a sponsored post, just a love affair, haha). A few weeks ago our dishwasher broke and I was neck deep in dishes with no desire to do them. It had been pretty iffy since we moved in + old and ugly, so I had no desire to fix it. Things were getting desperate around here… ummmm, anyone else buy paper plates when you don’t have a dishwasher?
I started to research when and how to buy a new dishwasher, what dishwasher we wanted, and most of all how to save money on the purchase. So I thought I’d share my thought process.
We already knew we wanted the same brand as our stove and fridge, and of course stainless steel. So we researched the three models that fit and decided that the least expensive was fine for us. It had great reviews on all the websites we looked at and would fit our kitchen nicely.
Next we needed to get it at as low a price as possible. We read that appliances often go on major sale during the fall because new inventory is coming in soon, so we started checking around. Many stores carried the dishwasher we wanted: Home Depot, Lowe’s, best buy, jcpenny, and sears. I was all set to go for jcpennys when the next day I got an ad for my local sears doing a one day only 10% off special sale and that made the price at sears even better.
Next I thought about how I could apply for a credit card at a store and save 5 or 10%. But I hate getting more credit cards, and I really like to put big purchases on our British Airways card so we can get airline points. Then I remembered the Raise App, which I had used once before, which sells gift cards at a discount for tons of different stores. Sure enough, they had Sears gift cards at 8% off! That would bring the price below the 400 dollar threshold we were hoping for. So we checked to make sure the store would accept the gift cards and then we bought them using our credit card! I say THEM because on Raise.com you have to buy gift cards in the amounts they have available. I had to buy three gift cards to total the price of the dishwasher.
Since discovering the Raise App, some of my favorite stores to buy gift cards from are H&M at about 22% OFF, TJ Maxx is 15% OFF, Gap and Old Navy are about 13% OFF, and Home Depot (in store) is 7% OFF. There are a bunch more, but these are some good current deals that I plan to use for my Christmas shopping!
After all was said and done we saved 40% off a new dishwasher and I got my British Airways points to boot! If you have never used Raise, try it!!! You can use my code EPETERSEN to get $5 dollars to spend on any gift card! Hope you love money saving as much as I do!!!
